Happy 4th!

Hello Band Families!
Congratulations to our ETHS Marching Band for their first performance of the season at yesterday's July 4th Parade!  Mr. Lehman, Ms. Long, and I are very proud of our students - it's been a great three weeks of rehearsals and the band looked and sounded great!  Thank you all for your hard work these past few weeks - you have really set a great tone for an outstanding season!  A special shout-out to Zoe Ryan-Hubbard on her Drum Major debut - great job Zoe!
We would also like to thank our band parents for helping out yesterday!  Bonnie Bean and Cathy Bouxsein for their uniform help!  Irv and Barbara Badr, Cathy Bouxsein, Sean Burke, and anyone else who jumped in to water our students during the parade!  Mary Bauer for her excellent photography (see below - more to come!), and Jonah Angulo-Hurtig, ETHS Alum '12 - for filling in on snare drum!  We would also like to extend a very special thank you to our dear friend Mrs. Peggy Sue Casey for helping out our drumline again this June - you are the best!

Welcome Our New Percussion Instructor!

The ETHS Band Program is proud to welcome our new percussion instructor, Akira Robles, to our staff!  Mr. Robles just finished his coursework at the University of Illinois for a DMA in Percussion Performance and will be in residence at ETHS this year as he completes his research for his dissertation on the genesis of snare drum rudiments.  In addition to his long list of performance accolades, Mr. Robles has held three similar posts as a curricular percussion instructor, private lesson teacher, and drumline instructor at public high schools in Texas and Illinois.  He is currently on tour as a drumline instructor with the world famous Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, and has also held similar teaching positions with Phantom Regiment, Glassmen, and Revolution DCI groups.  We are really looking forward to working with Mr. Robles this year!  We encourage you to check out Mr. Robles' drumline with Santa Clara Vanguard as they compete this summer!  Check out
http://www.dci.org/schedule/ for a list of performances, or YouTube them!

Summer Reminders
As our time away from ETHS Band begins, we remind you that your forms and fees are due by August 1st.  Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions and we will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner.  Please remember to sign up for a room for Band Camp - the girls have done a great job with this, but the boys have not - talk to your friends and sign up!  We also remind you to download and practice your Wizard of Oz halftime music!  Section leaders should be contacting you shortly to schedule a couple of summer social outings and music gatherings.

Have a wonderful summer!  Looking forward to seeing everyone in August!

Sincerely,
Mr. Bufis and Mr. Lehman

Rooming List and Music Posted

Good Afternoon Marching Band Families,
Thank you students for another great rehearsal yesterday!  It was great to welcome the Pom Kits and Cheerleaders to our parade formation.  One more rehearsal to go - keep up the great work!  A few final reminders below, as discussed yesterday!

July 4th Reminder
As discussed last night, if you plan to meet us at Bent Park or to be picked up at Ryan Field, YOU MUST make arrangements with one of your peers to get your instrument on the bus (if you play something large, like Sousaphone or Percussion).  If you play something smaller, you should take it with you after rehearsal tomorrow.  Please also let us know via email (IN WRITING) if you will be meeting us at Bent Park or being picked up at Ryan Field.

Band Camp Rooming Lists
Rooming lists for Band Camp have been posted in a Google Spreadsheet located at the link below.  At the bottom of this interface, there are 3 tabs - "Girls Rooms" "Boys Rooms" and "Staff Rooms".  Please visit this Google Spreadsheet and sign up for your room.  We have provided a full roster of Girls and Boys for your convenience, but please talk to each other to determine who you would like to room with for camp!  Please also remember, you are on the Honor System here -
do not remove someone else's name from a room - you are only to adjust your own name.  Have fun!

July 4th Festivities In Chicago
Andrew Santiago, senior flute player with the ETHS music program, will be performing in Chicago tomorrow with his flute quartet!  Here is the information if you would like to check out his performance!!

Tomorrow, July 4th at 5:30p.m., the Merit School of Music's "Silver Lining Quartet" is performing in the Grant Park Pritzker Pavilion. Andrew Santiago (substituting for David Light), Antonette Winscott, Cooper Lopez, and Jazzy Rangel make up the group. Jazzy is a recent high school graduate, Cooper and Andrew are both entering their Senior year, and Antonette is entering her Junior year of high school.

The group originates out of the Merit School of Music's Tuition-Free Conservatory, a program that allows students from all over the Chicago area to engage in in-depth music study through chamber music, theory studies, and large ensembles.  The quartet will be opening the Grant Park Symphony's Independence Day Salute, which features many American classics, and will begin at 6:30. More information about the GPSO concert can be found at
