Last Band Email of 2014

Good Evening Band Families,
Congratulations to the ETHS Wind Symphony for their wonderful performance this evening!  We had such a great experience hosting our guests from Sydney, Australia - we certainly hope it was enjoyable for all of you who attended.  We are looking forward to many wonderful opportunities in the new year.

Substitute Plans - Wednesday Through Friday This Week
Mr. Lehman and I will be in Chicago for the next four days at the annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic - an international music educators festival featuring world-class concerts, lectures, instrument manufacturers and other vendors, and much more.  In our absence, please observe the following notes as discussed in class over the last two days:

1) The Music Study Center is closed for the remainder of the week.  Please remain in your study halls or visit other study centers during your free periods.  The band room will remain locked outside of class periods (1-2-4-5-6).  Please do not visit the band room or music wing outside of your scheduled class period.

2) All Band Students will report to period 6 for band class tomorrow (Wednesday) as discussed in class the last two days.  Bill Denton, trumpet player for the Lyric Opera and Army Band member, will be performing for our band students.  This should be a terrific experience!  The substitute will take attendance - please sit in the auditorium by band class to expedite this process.

3) Thursday and Friday you will attend your regularly scheduled band class.  On Thursday, as discussed today in class, you will complete your post concert reflection by listening to recordings and completing the assignment.  On Friday, you will read an article about the Cleveland Symphony and complete a reflection assignment.  Both assignments will be collected and graded.  If you are absent from school, you can make up these assignments by visiting your band webpage under "Materials" - "Concert Bands" - and click on your band.

Northshore Honor Band & All State
Packets of information were distributed in classes over the last two days to those of you who were selected for All-State and the Northshore Honor Band.  Please review this information and return the permission slips following break.

Tuba Christmas and Midwest Clinic High School Institute
We have several of our band students visiting the Midwest Clinic this week, which is awesome!  We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!  For those of you attending Tuba Christmas at the Palmer House Hilton, we have been asked to complete an interview again for the Chicago Tribune.  Please arrive to the rehearsal on time so you can be interviewed and photographed prior to the gig!  Bring a music stand, your tuba or euphonium, and wear festive colors!  You will be able to purchase music and/or tuba christmas gear at the event.

Freshmen Concert Band Playing Test
This exam will take place during your 1st Semester Final Exam timeframe (Monday January 12th, 2015 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.) and will serve as chair placements for third quarter.  This Chair Test will be performed in front of a Flip Video or Zoom Camera.  These materials were passed out in rehearsal today and they can be found at the following link: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B7bD8Ftdbd5wRURQWW1fVTNRbVE&usp=sharing

Have a wonderful holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year!
