ILMEA Auditions – ETHS Bands ILMEA Registration Deadline is Friday September 11th

We highly encourage our students to audition for ILMEA!  Our own ETHS Bands auditions for Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band, and our Jazz Program are made up of excerpts from the ILMEA auditions in an effort to give our students a competitive edge.  For more information on ILMEA, and the ETHS process for participating in ILMEA, please read below:

The Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) is Illinois' professional organization for music educators. This organization promotes, cultivates, and guides public school music education in the state of Illinois through professional development for teachers and elite performance experiences for students. Each fall, the 9 ILMEA districts in Illinois host auditions during the month of October to determine acceptance into district level honor bands, orchestras, choirs, jazz choirs, jazz bands, and jazz combos. These auditions also serve as the determining gateway for inclusion in the annual All-State performing ensembles, who rehearse and perform during the annual ILMEA Conference held in Peoria each January.   In the District 7 ILMEA region, of which ETHS is a participating school, there is a limit of 16 student auditioners per discipline (winds and percussion, jazz, choir, vocal jazz, choir). As a school, we often have more than 16 students per discipline who are interested in auditioning at the district level. Because of this, our department must first determine student interest and administer an internal audition process in advance of the ILMEA District 7 audition entry deadline. If you are interested in auditioning for ILMEA, please fill out the ETHS ILMEA Band/Jazz Audition Interest Form at the link below.

ETHS IMEA Band/Jazz Audition Interest Form

Jazz Program Auditions     We had a fantastic turnout for the ETHS Jazz Program auditions last week!  We hope to post the results by this Friday.  Please check the Jazz bulletin board before you leave for the weekend.  We hope to post these results online as well at www.ethsjazz.com  Our annual Jazz Information Night will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the ETHS Auditorium on Tuesday September 8th!  We look forward to seeing you there!

MB Game 1 Congrats!

Good Evening Wildkit Marching Band Families!
Congratulations to our band for a fantastic job on Friday night!  It's really awesome to see our group's progress in just a few weeks together.  I am excited for many more wonderful performances this season!
Special thank you to all of our parent volunteers, but especially Julie Strauss, Joel Brown, Stacy Benjamin, Waldek Ziolkowski, Tom Hartmann, Kathy Bauer, Dina Berne, Elizabeth Osborne, Scott Osborne, Christina Peters, Tuner Lequar, Bonnie Bean, and Barbara Badr for all of their help - we could not have done it without you!
As we head into another week, stay tuned on the ETHS Bands website under "Materials - Marching Band" for video of Friday evening's performance.  Each performance will be accompanied by a brief reflection assignment to be completed during the week following a performance.  More information to follow!
In case you missed it, the Marching Band was featured in a newspaper article last week!  You can check it out here:

BAND PROGRAM LOGISTICS
Band Program Information
As a band department, we are committed to communicating our expectations, policies, schedules, and successes with our students, band families, and community at large on a regular basis.  We do this in several ways:

Emails Through HAC
Our school uses an online grading and communication software called “Home Access Center” as a primary line of communication with parents and students.  We will often generate class emails that are based on the email addresses you have linked in the HAC interface.  To add, edit, or update an email address in HAC, simply visit:

http://www.eths.k12.il.us/parents/homeaccess.aspx

Band Website: www.ethsbands.com
Our website contains many descriptions, schedules, and explanations of everything that is happening in our program on a regular basis within the “Curriculum” tab.  Our “Calendar” tab provides an up-to-date Google Calendar of all of our band events, rehearsals, trips, and activities that can be linked with your phones, tablets, and computers for your convenience.  The “Blog” tab includes a record of every band program email we have sent throughout the year, should you need to reference any announcements.  The “Materials” tab includes student resources such as assignments, rehearsal recordings, professional reference recordings, sheet music, and handouts.  Our “Faculty & Staff” tab lists the bios and contact information for our directors, adjunct staff, and private lesson students.  Lastly, our “Spring Tour” tab serves as a resource for all materials relating to our biennial tours including fund raising information, permission forms, rooming lists, and photos from our trip.

Band Handbook
We will be sending home a copy of this great resource manual during the first days of school for your review and signature.  This handbook can also be found on our webpage in digital format.

Class Announcements
We will communicate with our students in three additional ways:  1) Daily, we will provide verbal announcements to our students at the start of class.  2) We will post announcements on the large dry-erase board in the band hallway on a regular basis.  3) We will, at times, provide written announcements and assignments to students in class.

Required Materials
We ask that you check your instruments and cases this weekend to make sure that everything is working properly on your instruments and that you have all of your necessary supplies for class.  See below for the materials excerpted from our Band Handbook:

Saturday's Leadership Meeting
All student leaders will meet in the band room on Saturday from 1:00pm - 6:00pm to help setup the band room and music wing for camp and the 2015 school year.  We will plan out band camp and prepare for a great season!

Sunday's Band Camp Meeting
This Sunday is a required Band Camp meeting for all of our members from 3:00pm to 4:30pm.  We will go over what to pack, discuss the expectations for band camp, and get ready for two weeks of fun and productivity!  If you are missing fees or forms, they must be turned in at this meeting.

Band Camp Chaperones
As of today, we have three chaperones for camp who will be taking shifts, providing at least one person in a supervising role at all times.  We are definitely more comfortable with more chaperones.  It provides for a safer environment for our students and frees up our staff so we can focus on instruction.  If you are able to help us out, please email me ASAP - bufism@eths.k12.il.us

Friday 8/14 Pot Luck Dinner
At the end of our camp, we invite all of our friends and family to a demonstration performance of our fall halftime show. This event will showcase the field drill, music, and color guard choreography we learned in our first full week of rehearsals. We encourage you to bring all of your friends and family to this event to cheer on our band and celebrate our accomplishments with a Pot Luck dinner. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. and should conclude by 6:30 p.m.Note: this event is mandatory for all marching band members. Please see below for your assigned food responsibilities, which rotate each year by alphabetic last name ranges. Bring enough food to feed 10 people!
