Band Announcements 5-4 to 5-8 2016

Good Morning Band Families,
A few important announcements as we head into a great weekend!

Honors Credit Applications Due Monday May 2nd for Semester 2!!!
We have updated our webpage to include the Spring Semester 2 Honors Application Materials.  Please read through the materials carefully.  The firm deadline for the second semester is this Monday May 2nd.  Read more at www.ethsbands.com/curriculum

Hersey Makeup Assignment
As a reminder, we created and distributed a make-up assignment for our students who were unable to join us at the Hersey Concert Band Festival last Saturday April 16th, which was due yesterday: Friday April 29th.  This assignment provided an opportunity for all of our students who could not join us to garner an alternative grade for that important concert experience.  We will be reading/grading these makeup assignments and will update our grade book early next week.  A copy of the assignment is linked below.

Hersey Makeup Assignment

Spring Concert - Thursday May 12th at 7:30 p.m.
Concert Band and Symphonic Band will report for warm-up at 6:50 p.m. - Concert Band to the Band Room, Symphonic Band to the Orchestra Room.  Wind Symphony will report to the audience with their instruments at 7:20 p.m.  Following warmup, Symphonic Band students will bring their instruments with them to the auditorium seating in an effort to cut down on transition time throughout the program.  We anticipate that the evening will run 75 - 90 minutes, including our annual awards ceremony.

As the concert approaches, we would like to ask that our band students and families spend a few minutes talking about concert etiquette prior to our community event.  Our expectation for our students is that they be supportive peer members and active listeners for the duration of the concert, with respect for each other as well as for the wonderful community of patrons who attend our annual event.  We have reinforced this expectation throughout our daily preparation this week for what will surely  be an evening  of wonderful performances.  Thank you in advance for your support!

ETHS Bands Post-Spring Break Announcements 2016

Hello ETHS Band Students and Families!
We have a number of important announcements as we jump into our post-break 4th quarter.  Please read below!

ETHS Wind Symphony Makes Super State!

It is with great pride that we announce the acceptance of the ETHS Wind Symphony to the prestigious Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival.  Held at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Champaign-Urbana on May 7th, the Wind Symphony will perform on the home stage of the U of I Fine Arts programs, the same stage that was once used by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to record several albums.  Our band was chosen as one of nine in the "Class AAAA" category by an anonymous refereed submission process made up of a panel of college band directors from across the country.  They will perform for several distinguished evaluators from major universities and service bands in front of an audience of their musical peers.  This marks the SECOND EVER performance for Evanston Township at this event, placing them alongside the very best high school bands from throughout the state.

More information on Illinois Super State can be found here - updates will be frequent over the next several weeks:
http://bands.illinois.edu/content/illinois-superstate-concert-band-festival
We will be traveling to U of I by bus on Saturday May 7th.  If you are interested in chaperoning, or if any other ETHS Band members would like to travel with us to Champaign to witness this event, please contact Mr. Bufis via email.  The event will also be broadcast live on the web via the U of I Bands webpage.  A link will be made available as we get closer to the event.

Wind Symphony Information - April/May Calendar
We have a busy couple of months for the Wind Symphony.  Please click below for a PDF of the schedule and information we went over in class on Monday.  Let's work hard to make this a memorable time - these are experiences we can all look back on with pride!
