Band Announcements 4-21 through 4-25

Good Morning Band Families,
We hope you had a great 3-day weekend!  Here are some important announcements!

Concert Bands
The Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony recorded some performance takes during their 4/17 rehearsal last week - marking the halfway point of our concert preparation period.  An assignment for each group has been uploaded on the following page of the website.  This assignment is due this Friday 4/25 and will be uploaded into TAC/HAC at that time.

Marching Band
We are still waiting for Marching Band Commitment forms from many of you.  These forms help us to coordinate with our Drill Writer, Music Writer, and Percussion Writer - our composition team.  An awareness of instrumentation and personnel is critical during this planning stage as it helps us to determine how the music is orchestrated (section features, solos, etc) and how to stage the band on the field in the drill.  Please complete the form and turn it in ASAP.  See below for other details!

Percussion Pit and Drumline Skill Assessments/Part Assignment Auditions
Each year, percussion students are required to complete a percussion audition for placement in either the Drumline or Pit Percussion sections of the Wildkit Marching Band. This audition serves as a basic skills assessment to ensure that all percussion students can be placed on an instrument where they can best grow as an individual musician while contributing to the percussion section as well as the band as a whole.  Audition materials can be found in hard copy in the ETHS Band Room, or online at: http://www.ethsbands.com/curriculum/marching_band/percussion.html

New Percussionists
All new Wildkit Marching Band Percussionists are required to attend a workshop on Friday April 25th from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the ETHS Band Room with Mr. Eisenreich. The workshop will include a rehearsal on the audition information below as well as sight-reading and the learning of a traditional ETHS cadence. Following this rehearsal, the new Wildkit Marching Band Percussionists will join the returning percussionists in a rehearsal on Saturday April 26th from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the ETHS Band Room. If you are unable to attend any of these sessions, please contact Mr. Eisenreich to make other arrangements at eisenreich333@gmail.com

Returning Percussionists
All returning Wildkit Band Percussionists are required to audition with Mr. Eisenreich during the week of April 21 - April 25 by appointment (a sign-up sheet is available on the band room percussion wall). The audition excerpts are provided below. Following auditions, all Wildkit Marching Band Percussionists will join together for a first rehearsal on Saturday April 26th from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the ETHS Band Room. If you are unable to attend this session, or cannot sign-up for a posted available audition time, please contact Mr. Eisenreich to make other arrangements at eisenreich333@gmail.com

Marching Band Read-Through Night
Our first rehearsal for Marching Band is next
Thursday May 1st from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in the ETHS Band Room.  We look forward to reading through some Wizard of Oz music as well as some fun pep tunes!  This is a great opportunity to meet all of our new and returning marchers!  We look forward to seeing you there!

Jazz Band
As emailed last week, the Jazz audition materials for next year's program have been posted to our website!  They can be reached via the tab on the
www.ethsbands.com site, or directly at www.ethsjazz.com within the site directory marked "Jazz Audition Materials".

That's all for now - have a great week!
Mr. Bufis and Mr. Lehman

Band Annoucements Pre Spring Break

Good Afternoon Band Families,
A few final thoughts before we kick-off our much needed, and much deserved, spring break!

Solo & Ensemble Congratulations
A well-deserved congratulations to the participants of the 2014 Solo and Ensemble Festival at ETHS.  Over 30 of our students performed yesterday in over 25 events for adjudication.  Our evaluator praised the level of preparation and musicality that our students portrayed.  Bravo students!

Drumline Congratulations
A special thank you and congratulations goes out to the ETHS Drumline and Mr. Eisenreich for a great performance at the Kraft Foods corporation on Wednesday.  The Drumline represented ETHS well at this special event, featuring Kool-Aid, Mr. Peanut, and two very big statues of Mac n' Cheese and the Oscar-Meyer hot dog.  For pictures of the event, visit:

ETHS Wind Symphony Makes Super State!
It is with great pride that we announce the acceptance of the ETHS Wind Symphony to the prestigious Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival.  Held at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Champaign-Urbana on May 10th, the Wind Symphony will perform on the home stage of the U of I Fine Arts programs, the same stage that was once used by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to record several albums.  Our band was chosen as one of seven in the "Class AAAA" category by an anonymous refereed submission process made up of a panel of college band directors from across the country.  They will perform for several distinguished evaluators from major universities and service bands (including Col. John Bourgeois, retired conductor of the President's Own United States Marine Band) in front of an audience of their musical peers.  This marks the FIRST EVER performance for Evanston Township at this event, placing them alongside the very best high school bands from throughout the state.

More information on Illinois Super State can be found here - updates will be frequent over the next several weeks:

We will be traveling to U of I by bus on Saturday May 10th.  If you are interested in chaperoning, or if any other ETHS Band members would like to travel with us to Champaign to witness this event, please contact Mr. Bufis via email.  The event will also be broadcast live on the web via the U of I Bands webpage.  A link will be made available as we get closer to the event.

Wind Symphony Students:
Please take some much-deserved break time to relax with your family and friends.  As discussed in class, this prestigious event requires great planning - so work some practice time in over your week at home or away.

Dixie Classics Festival Volunteers
We will be hosting another event for the Dixie Classics company on Saturday 4/12 in the upstairs theatre.  If you volunteered to work, or would still like to volunteer, please arrive at the band room by 7:30 a.m. dressed in all black.  You will be working as stage crew members, so no need to wear nice clothing - just all black.

Have a Happy and Healthy Spring Break - from our Band Family to yours!

Mr. Bufis and Mr. Lehman
